Our Story
Who We Are....
Founded in the year of 2005, the Mother Geneva Johnson Academy (MGJA) was established by a visionary and great man of God, Bishop Dwayne Johnson- son of Bishop R. P. Johnson and Mother Geneva Johnson. While in the middle of the beginning stages of a community revitalization project, it was brought to the attention of Bishop Johnson that in the nearby public school , minority students, along with students considered to be at-risk youth, were being underserved and systemically being prepared for mediocre or no success in the future. Bishop Johnson proposed to a group of parents who were a part of his staff a solution to the problem- starting a private, Christian-based school that would soon grow to service grades K-12. Using their own children as the first set of students, a legacy was born.
Bishop Johnson, along with his highly educated staff, came together to create and implement a curriculum that was rooted in a holistic approach. The goal was to cater to each student's needs on a spiritual, physical, and mental level. Heavily based in the arts, the program proved to be a success. Students who were failing in public school began to excel academically.
With a proven system that worked, and a 100% graduation rate, the Mother Geneva Johnson Academy went on to become one of the greatest gems of the Have Faith Community Development Corporation.
This noteworthy academy has been named after Mother Geneva Johnson, one of the world's greatest educators, leaders, and women of God. She adored and cared for young people and had a passion for them to learn and use the talents that God gave them. She truly believed that every child is a star, and it is our job as educators to guide them to what makes them shine ...
That, is exactly what we do!
